Hi, I'm Kimberly.
I am a mixed media painter. I love my 6'9" husband, Joffre the Giant, and my five beautiful kids. I have 2 girls and three boys that fill my life. I love teaching art online at Kepler education and Logos Online School and in person. We live on the beautiful Palouse in Moscow, Idaho. We are Christians who love the Word of God, the Bible, and seek to be Trinitarian in all of our life.
God has led me down an interesting path in art training and understanding. One of the best things I learned while I was in art school during middle and high school was to experiment. I was more interested in Guiseppe Arcimboldo, (a painter that made portraits of people made entirely of fruit or chicken pieces), African American folk artists, and Rene Magritte (one of the first surrealists) than Michaelangelo. Texture is my favorite thing to explore in art. J.M.W. Turner's long textured strokes and Andrew Wyeth's very fine detailed texture both are very appealing to me as a painter but I also love to sculpt and add actual texture. I used to put sand or pine needles on my pieces after seeing the works of sculptors like Andy Goldsworthy (he only uses natural materials to create sculptures).
After having children I took a lot of time off from pursuing art because I wanted to enjoy my kids and have time for them. During that time I learned to sew and loved messing with the color, shape, and texture of fabric. I was very influenced by the work of Anna Maria Horner, an artist/fabric designer. This led me to use my fine arts degree in painting to mix with fabric collage. I glue, cut, and shape fabric to the canvas and seal it. Then I use oil or acrylic paint on top. Getting to create a textured canvas is like sculpting and painting all in one and I love it.
Now I do mostly fabric collage, visit my parents in Montana or Florida and try to convince my kids to draw what they see more than manga. I prune our roses and thank God that, "the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places."
